Marc Quinn – ‘Self’ (1991)

Cast of own head made with 4.5 litres of his own blood (frozen).

He does these portraits every five years to document his change in appearance. It takes him 5 months to collect the blood.

Charles Saatchi owned one of Quinn’s “Self” sculptures and kept it in his freezer. When he was having his kitchen redone, the builders accidentally unplugged the fridge and came back to find a shit ton of blood seeping from the fridge. Metal.
